The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® was developed by Melisa Pearce, a core founder since 1989, of the horse-human healing movement. The experiential nature of the method involves the horse as an active partner with the coach in the client’s exploratory process. The integrative approach of the equine’s interaction combined with positive coaching, somatic awareness guidance and Gestalt methodology, assists the client in examining their life and choices made with a focus on designing a positive future.

FAQ’s about Equine Gestalt Coaching

What is Equine Gestalt Coaching?
The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® was developed by Melisa Pearce, a core founder since 1989, of the horse-human healing movement. The experiential nature of the method involves the horse as an active partner with the coach in the client’s exploratory process. Do I have to ride?
No. Previous riding or horse experience is not necessary. Interaction with the horses is on the ground and basic safety instructions will be given prior to all sessions. All sessions are supervised and the client is never left alone with the horse.

If we’re not riding, what are we doing?
Good question. This work really has nothing to do with traditional horsemanship. It is about personal growth, self-discovery and exploration. Horses are amazing creatures that live totally in the moment and are most attracted to and willing to work with us when we are in alignment: mind, body, and spirit. Due to their sentient nature they are able to provide us with immediate feedback on our inner state of being and help us get to the root of our issues very quickly. Horses are able to provide a “snap shot” of where we are and how we are presenting ourselves in the world helping us to see and identify issues and solutions.

Is this therapy?
This is NOT therapy. I do not diagnose or treat. Each session is based on the belief that you hold the answers to your questions. As a coach I can help you access the information and answers that you are seeking. Coaching is a way to provide you with the opportunity for self-examination, releasing that which no longer serves you, and embracing the power of choice.

What if I can’t come to the barn?
Phone coaching is available by appointment. Sessions are usually scheduled in advance once per week for a three month period. More or less time can be scheduled depending upon your needs.

Are sessions confidential?
Absolutely! All coaching sessions, whether by phone or in persons are confidential. It is occasionally necessary to have a handler for the horse included in the session and that person is considered part of the team and well versed in confidentiality issues. What happens at the barn stays at the barn.
